Luxembourg’s upper town at the end of a chauffeur-driven trip from Paris

From Paris to the Grand Duchy through Champagne and Lorraine

We leave Paris on the A4, the eastern motorway. It crosses the Brie, follows the Marne, runs through the heart of Reims, then heads across Champagne and the Meuse, near Verdun. At Metz, we join the A31 towards Thionville and the border.

The A31 between Metz and Luxembourg is one of the busiest roads in eastern France: more than a hundred thousand cross-border commuters use it every day. Between 6.30am and 9am and between 4.30pm and 7pm, it can double the time of the final hour. Whenever possible, we time your arrival outside these slots.

Once over the border, everything gets easy: toll-free motorways, a compact city and short distances between Kirchberg, the station and Cloche d’Or. The driver can take you from one meeting to the next and wait for you.

Clients on this route are mainly professionals in finance, law and the EU institutions, but also families visiting relatives who live in Luxembourg.

An honest comparison

Door to door: private car or train?

Car with driver

3h 45min

From your front door to your destination address, with no changes and no luggage to carry.

VS

Train, door to door

3h 35min

2h 05min on the train, plus around 1h 30min to get to the station, wait for departure and complete the journey at the other end.

Our straight-talking verdict

The TGV links Paris-Est and Luxembourg in just over two hours: it is faster for a one-way trip on your own. A car with driver becomes more practical for a day of meetings at several addresses, for a group or a family, or when train times do not fit your schedule.
