Paris → Italy through the Mont Blanc Tunnel

Paris to Milan by private chauffeur

The Jura, the foot of Mont Blanc, the Aosta Valley and then the Po plain: it is our longest route, and one of the most beautiful. Door to door, it even rivals the train.

Crossing the Alps in a day

We take the A6 to Mâcon, then the A40 through the Jura to the Arve valley. At the foot of Mont Blanc, in Chamonix, we enter the tunnel: eleven kilometres under the massif, coming out in Italy at Courmayeur.

The descent through the Aosta Valley, past castles and terraced vineyards, is one of the highlights of the trip. We then reach the Po plain and the Italian motorways all the way to Milan.

More than eight hours on the road takes real planning: three breaks, an early start and, if you like, an overnight stop in Chamonix or Annecy to turn the trip into a journey. The Mont Blanc Tunnel is sometimes closed for maintenance work: in that case, we go through the Fréjus Tunnel, via Chambéry and Turin.

On arrival, we drop you in the centre, at Porta Nuova, at the Fiera in Rho for a trade fair, at Malpensa or Linate, or right on the shores of Lake Como.

An honest comparison

Door to door: private car or train?

Car with driver

8h 15min

From your front door to your destination address, with no changes and no luggage to carry.

VS

Train, door to door

8h 40min

7h 10min on the train, plus around 1h 30min to get to the station, wait for departure and complete the journey at the other end.

Our straight-talking verdict

The direct Paris–Milan train, when it runs, takes about seven hours, with few departures a day. Once you add the journeys to and from the stations, a car with driver draws level door to door. It wins hands down for a group or a family, with lots of luggage, for the Fiera in Rho, the lakes or if you want a stopover in the Alps.
