As far as La Gravelle, then Brittany

The trip starts just like Paris–Nantes: the A10, the A11 and the Beauce, Chartres and Le Mans. At Le Mans, we take the A81 towards Laval. At the La Gravelle toll plaza, we enter Brittany, and the dual carriageways are toll-free all the way to Rennes.

Rennes is a lively regional capital: the Parliament of Brittany, the half-timbered houses of the historic centre and, every Saturday morning, the Marché des Lices, one of the largest markets in France.

For many of our clients, Rennes is just a stopover. Saint-Malo, Dinard, Cancale and Mont-Saint-Michel are about an hour away: the car spares you the TGV followed by a coach or regional train connection.

Family holidays on the Emerald Coast, with suitcases, bikes or the dog, are the classic case where a car with driver changes everything.

An honest comparison

Door to door: private car or train?

Car with driver 3h 30min

From your front door to your destination address, with no changes and no luggage to carry.

Train, door to door 2h 57min

1h 27min on the train, plus around 1h 30min to get to the station, wait for departure and complete the journey at the other end.

Our straight-talking verdict

The TGV links Paris and Rennes in under an hour and a half: for central Rennes, it is unbeatable. A car with driver makes sense for Saint-Malo, Dinard or Mont-Saint-Michel, for a family with luggage, a pet or equipment, and for a group.
